Eleventh Hour, ITV, 2006. Mini-series, Episode 1: Resurrection

Patrick Stewart. I can't resist. A scientist chasing malefactors. Especially those who have discarded the warning: 'Do no harm'. But I'm very uncomfortable with politicized dramas pushing viewer buttons in difficult areas of scientific research. And Resurrection goes for the jugular.

Rich father loses son. Poor, single teen mother impregnated to clone the missing kid. Somewhere around the 37th attempt at same. Discarded, deformed fetuses buried with crosses in a field. Secrets and sorrow. Stem cells and Dolly. Greys, browns and sepia but for the occasional red pooling of blood.

Add to this mix the seedy doc who's been kicked out of his profession. Plus his even seedier female cohort. How will you vote now, viewers? Are you fully informed and past the age of consent?

I'm still holding out hope for the remaining episodes. And I'm still looking for the reason that Mr. Stewart accepted the role. Meanwhile, 2 stars out of 4.
